Installing,removing,orreplacinghardware
Thistopicprovidesinstructionsonhowtoinstall,remove,orreplacehardwareforyourserver.Youcan
expandthecapabilitiesofyourserverbyaddingnewhardwaredevices,suchasmemorymodulesorother
serveroptions,andmaintainyourserverbyreplacingthefailinghardwaredevices.
Ifyouarehandlingaserveroption,refertotheappropriateinstallationandorremovalinstructionsinthis
topicalongwiththeinstructionsthatcomewiththeoption.

•UseonlypartsprovidedbyLenovo.
•Dependingonthemodel,yourservermightlookslightlydifferentfromtheillustrationsinthistopic.
TheEMIintegrityandcoolingoftheserverareprotectedbyhavingalldrivebayscoveredoroccupied.
Whenyouinstallaninternaldrive,savetheEMIshieldordummytrayfromthedrivebayintheeventthat
youlaterremovethedevice.
Attention:Anunoccupieddrivebaywithoutacover,shield,dummytray,filler,oranyotherprotectionmight
impacttheEMIintegrityandcoolingoftheserver,whichmightresultinoverheatingorcomponentdamage.

Yourserverhas16memoryslotsandithasthefollowingfeatures:
•Eachslotsupports32GBdoubledatarate4low-voltageregistereddualinlinememorymodules(DDR4
LVRDIMMs).
•Eachslotsupports4GB,8GB,and16GBDDR4RDIMMs.
•Yourserversupportsuptoeightmemorymoduleswhenonemicroprocessorisinstalledandupto16
memorymoduleswhentwomicroprocessorsareinstalled.
•TheminimumsystemmemoryforRDIMMsis4GB(onlyonemicroprocessorinstalledandonlyone4
GBRDIMMinstalledintheCPU1DIMMA1slot).
•TheminimumsystemmemoryforLVRDIMMsis32GB(onlyonemicroprocessorinstalledandonlyone
32GBLVRDIMMinstalledintheCPU1DIMMA1slot).
•ThemaximumsystemmemoryforRDIMMsis256GB(twomicroprocessorsinstalledandone16GB
